GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION

In the Basque country, in the French department of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. 7 km from Biarritz. Bayonne, Anglet, St-Jean-de-Luz, Hendaye and Spain are not far away.

THE RESORT

THE RESIDENCE

• Built on a headland dominating an 18-hole golf course (entrance 500m away), and in front of the tee for the seventeenth hole, the residence is made up of 2 neo-Basque style buildings arranged in a semi-circle.
• Most of the apartments (all have a terrace, loggia or balcony), afford magnificent views over the golf course and the Pyrenees mountains.
• The residence is ideal for families who are in search of rest and quiet, for nature lovers and for those who love authenticity.

Overlooking the Arcangues golf course, the neo-Basque style residence is made up of 2 groups of buildings which are arranged in semi-circles around either the swimming pool or a garden. All the apartments have a balcony, loggia or terrace, and most of them enjoy magnificent views over the golf course and the Pyrenees mountains. The centre of the village, with its restaurants, pelota wall and Trinquet is only 400 m away. Biarritz beach is 7 km away.

• Fully equipped kitchen area (4 hotplates, fridge, oven, dishwasher, electric coffee-maker), or American kitchen in 2/3-room studio apartments for 6 persons, 2/3-room studio apartments for 6/7 persons and 3/4-room studio apartments for 7/8 persons.
• 1 bathroom (basin + bath).
• Toilet (separated only in the 2-room apartments for 4 persons, and the 2-room apartments for 4/5 persons).

• Television. Available channels: 6 French channels (Canal+ decoded), CNN, Raï 1, 2 German channels, 2 Spanish and 2 Basque channels. Non-contractual information.
• Terrace, balcony or loggia. Some apartments on the ground floor are on garden level.

Note:

Sleeping in the top bunk is not suitable for children under 6 years old.

Swimming Pool

• 200 m² swimming pool with solarium. Depth: from 1.20 m to 1.70 m.
  Round paddling pool, 2 m in diametre and 0.20 m deep.
  At the poolside: deckchairs, mattresses and parasols are available subject to availability.

BEACH

• Public sandy beach* 7 km away (Biarritz and Anglet) and 12 km away (Bidart).

THE RESORT AND SURROUNDING AREA

The resort

Arcangues, which owes its fame to LUIS MARIANO, is a magnificent hillside village in a quaint opera-like setting, with a charming village square. The town hall and school, with their “Arcangues Blue” shutters, are a legacy of the former Marquis of Arcangues. Admire the pelota wall and Inn, with its huge shale tables, and the church with its unique nave. Just down the hill, you will find the sublime theatre of nature and, le Trinquet, where you will be able to watch exciting games of Basque Pelota and enjoy Basque specialities at the restaurant and listen to groups of Basque singers. Golf course surrounds the village and passes in front of the chateau, is still inhabited by the Arcangues family.
The church and cemetery where Luis Mariano is buried are exceptional and typical of the area.

The surrounding area:-

On the Basque coast: Bidart (8 km) with the Madeleine Chapel, Guéthary (13 km) the Saraléguinea Art Museum and the Maison Dorrea.

Biarritz (7 km) (History Museum, Maritime Museum, aquarium, Imperial Chapel, Saint-Martin’s church).

Anglet with the Chiberta’s lake, a factory which makes Basque pelota or chisteras.

Bayonne (10 km), (Vauban ramparts, gothic cathedral, cloisters, museum of Fine Arts, a factory which makes finely carved walking sticks and weapons or “makilas”).

Hendaye (33 km) and the Abbadie estate, a protected natural area. Casino, marina.
There are also many walks and circuits for tourists:
The Nive Valley: Cambo-les-Bains, Xistaberri Bidarray (a farming inn and nature reserve for pottocks), Louhossoa (weaving studios).

Espelette (various crafts, its peppers), Ainhoa (gingerbread factory), Sare (prehistoric caves), the village of Ascain.

La Rhune (900 m), 10 km from Saint-Jean-de-Luz (small rack-rail railway) with an exceptional view over the French and Spanish coasts, the Pyrenees and the legendary summits of the Basque Country.

Saint-Jean-de-Luz (18 km) and the Grévin museum, its square and a visit to the house of Louis XIV and the infanta, Sare and the prehistoric caves, Ciboure and the Leïhorra Villa, Hendaye and the Abbadia estate …

In the Nive Valley: Cambo les Bains (Edmond Rostand Museum), Bidarray (pottock nature reserve), Louhossoa (weaving studios). Further away, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (50km): the prison of the Bishops, Navarro pottery.

Trips into Spain (the boarder is 7 km away): Hondarrabia (tapas bars, wooden houses), Pasajes de San Juan, San Sebastian 20 km away(cathedral, amusement park). The Zugarramurdi caves....

• June: Festivals in the village of Arcangues: entertainment, Basque singing, representation of Basque strength, Basque pelota.
• June / July:
  - The "Casetas" festivals in Biarritz: during the night, with Spanish concerts and musical entertainment in bars (7 km).
  - International Bridge Festival in Biarritz town centre (7 km).
• July: Biarritz Surf Festival: multiple surf trials for all classes of surfer, with competitions and spectacular demonstrations (7 km).
• July/August: Bayonne festivals, Street Art with parades of giants, bull fighting, bull running, and luminous processions of floral floats in Bayonne town centre (10 km).
• August: - Andalusian feria in Biarritz town centre: a festival in honour of Andalusian dancing and singing
  - The Nuit Féerique (fairytale night): a huge fireworks display on the main beach in Biarritz (7 km).
  - Bayonne festivals, 1st half of August and its famous penas.
• September: The Festival of Latin American Cinemas and Cultures in Biarritz, "La Cita" (7 km).

SHOPS

• In Arcangues: general store, inn/restaurant. 500 m away, the golf course restaurant with a superb terrace and views over the Pyrenees, open middays and evenings.
• Supermarket facing the residence ( with bread, sweet breads or Basque cakes…).
• All services and shops in Biarritz (about 6 km away).
• Biarritz and Bayonne markets (8 km) every day in the indoor market.

• From Paris: motorway A10 (for 544 km) towards Bayonne. In Bordeaux, take the N10 highway (for 91 km) towards Bayonne / Biarritz, then in Bayonne, take the A63 motorway (for 39 km) towards Bayonne/Rive gauche, exit n°5 at Bayonne South. Take the D3 towards St- Pée-sur-Nivelle / Arcangues. In Arcangues (about 4 km from the motorway’s exit), head towards Arcangues golf course. The Pierre & Vacances residence is located on the left-hand side, 500 m before Arcangues golf course.
