Etretat Golf Course
Location: Normandy
Etretat Golf Club sits on top of the famous white cliffs just above Etretat
beach which is one of the most famous and photographed landmarks in France.
The views from the course are exceptional and are amongst the most scenic
of any course you will find in the whole of France.
Hole 1 is a Par 5 at 450 metres (white tees) and is SI 8
The course starts with a straight par 5, there is OOB left of the fairway
and two bunkers short front of the green. I took an eight after finding
the left rough twice and having to hack out both times
Hole 2 is a Par 3 at 142 metres and is SI 16
Slightly uphill par 3, trust the yardage. Back on track with a tap in
par.
Hole 3 is a Par 4 at 397 metres and is SI 2
Long par 4 into the wind (as were the first two holes!) OOB left fairly
straight forward hole, took 5
Hole 4 is a Par 4 at 342 metres and is SI 12
Another one into the wind! Lost my first tee shot with a BIG slice (old
habits!!) green is slightly raised so try to avoid the bunkers to the
right got up and down from there to get a 7
Hole 5 is a Par 4 at 376 metres and is SI 6
At last we turn away from the wind. A dog leg to the left, don't try to
fly the bunker on the corner, there is a lot of thick rough to clear as
well. Just hit a nice easy draw down the middle, knock it on the green
and two putts for par, like me!!
Hole 6 is a Par 5 at 470 metres and is SI 10
The second par 5 is reachable for long hitters, although there is a pond
short right and trees to the left, that's where I went, but rescued a
6
Hole 7 is a Par 4 at 327 metres and is SI 14
Don't need to do anything special here, just miss the trees on the left
and you should make par, I didn't and took 6
Hole 8 is a Par 4 at 411 metres and is SI 4
Super hole! Spectacular view from the tee and for your second shot my
par putt lipped out so five for me.
Hole 9 is a Par 3 at 177 metres and is SI 18
Nearest the pin candidate, watch out if you're long and left it's OOB.
4 for me, out in 48 (ouch!)
Hole 10 is a Par 5 at 450 metres and is SI 1
In 1999, our fledgling society played this course, out of our 12 players
no one did better than 7!!! This time was better a slight draw at the
centre of the fairway is the best idea, then just try to hit two solid
shots to the green. A treacherous hole, I got a six which felt like a
birdie!
Hole 11 is a Par 3 at 174 metres and is SI 7
Great short hole over a deep gully, again superb views. Solid 3
Hole 12 is a Par 4 at 445 metres and is SI 11
Deceptive long hole, not too much trouble 6 for me
Hole 13 is a Par 4 at 176 metres and is SI 17
Hard to judge the distance as this is a flat par 3. A slice will go OOB,
I messed up my drive with a weak pull and took 5
Hole 14 is a Par 4 at 353 metres and is SI 9
Big decision here is to either play safe to the left or take on the carry
by driving straight. I did the later, then punched a seven iron to six
feet, BIRDIE!! 3
Hole 15 is a Par 3 at 178 metres and is SI 15
Another of Etretat's lovely par 3's, don't miss left or you'll be down
the ravine you drove over at 14, just on the front with a six iron I took
3
Hole 16 is a Par 4 at 359 metres and is SI 3
Should be a straight forward par 4. There's a bunker short left which
I found with my second, it was that horrible distance of 30 yards to the
green, I took a six eventually
Hole 17 is a Par 4 at 324 metres and is SI 13
Clever par 4, you can hit the drive too far if it's left or left centre,
second is into a tight green. I found both fairway and green for a par
Hole 18 is a Par 5 at 522 metres and is SI 5
Straight down to the clubhouse. One of our guys hit this par 5 green with
a drive and an eight iron, (downhill, downwind!!) I don't hit it that
far, on for three, two putts, par to finish.
Out 48, Back 41, Gross 89, Net 74, Not bad in windy conditions
