Dieppe-Pourville Golf Club, Pourville, NormandyDieppe-Pourville Golf Club is one of the oldest in France and was first designed in 1897 by British Open winner, Willie Park. This club has a great history of affiliations with courses on the opposite side of the Channel in Sussex. In 2000 two new holes were added which now gives the course great views towards it's English rivals. The two old holes now home an extensive practise facility. The club house, although not the biggest, is very picturesque and in line with local Normandy architecture. A warm, English-style, feel is on hand to make your day complete and it's worth leaving enough time for lunch in the fabulous restaurant. COURSE REVIEW Hole 1 is a Par 4 and 278 metres (White Tees) and is SI 15 Dieppe Golf Club starts with a short par 4, just avoid the fairway bunkers and you shouldn't have too many problems. 4 for me. Hole 2 is a Par 3 and 156 metres (White Tees) and is SI 9 The green on this par 3 is elevated so if you miss you're going to have a tricky chip. I took 4 Hole 3 is a Par 5 and 456 metres (White Tees) and is SI 17 Not too much trouble here, no need to worry about the dogleg, you wont run out of fairway. 5 for me Hole 4 is a Par 4 and 425 metres (White Tees) and is SI 1 Now it gets difficult. The drive looks tighter than it really is and don't go too far right as you'll be blocked out by the trees. I messed up by driving into the trees and took 8!! Good Golf hole! Hole 5 is a Par 4 and 362 metres (White Tees) and is SI 5 One of the strangest golf holes in Normandy! I'm not sure who designed this hole, but I hope he gets paid back in heaven!! You must drive at the marker post. The second shot will ideally carry over the valley of death, to a two tiered 'devilish' green, 6. Hole 6 is a Par 3 and 186 metres (White Tees) and is SI 11 Hole 7 is a Par 4 and 360 metres (White Tees) and is SI 7 OOB left is hard to reach, much worse to be in the trees right. A good drive will leave a straight forward approach shot. 5. Hole 8 is a Par 4 and 377 metres (White Tees) and is SI 3 The wind was really getting tough now, it was strong, swirling and gusting from the Normandy coast, GREAT! It should be quite simple, the fairway bunker is a remnant from when this was a par 5 and is not in play for normal golfers, if you go right off the tee re-load, don't even bother looking, if you do and find a Titleist nxt 3 with a red ring around the number it's mine!! Second drive was better but still took 7. Hole 9 is a Par 4 and 379 metres (White Tees) and is SI 13 Simple par 4, shouldn't cause too many problems, unless you duff the second shot like me, 6. Out in 49 and it's very windy now!!! Hole 10 is a Par 3 and 175 metres (White Tees) and is SI 16 Looks tough from the tee but there is more ground than you think, right is better than left. Regulation par for me. Hole 11 is a Par 4 and 350 metres (White Tees) and is SI 10 Short par 4 OOB left, big hitters watch out for the fairway bunkers. 7 don't ask! Hole 12 is a Par 4 and 326 metres (White Tees) and is SI 6 Try to drive to the left, long and right will be blocked out by the line of trees, no other real worries here, 5. Hole 13 is a Par 4 and 434 metres (White Tees) and is SI 2 A good long par 4, must find the fairway to reach in two, also there is some dead ground in front of the green that can't be seen from the fairway, another 7 I'm afraid. Hole 14 is a Par 5 and 444 metres (White Tees) and is SI 8 Short par 5 aim at the tree, they're 95% air and how many times do you hit what you aim at?? I got my par and put my golfing head back on. Hole 15 is a Par 3 and 143 metres (White Tees) and is SI 12 Tricky short hole, again trouble is all around so make sure you hit the green, I did then three putted 4. Hole 16 is a Par 5 and 472 metres (White Tees) and is SI 4 Recently voted the 'Best New Golf Hole in Normandy'. Really good par 5, if you get on this green in two let me know! I'll send you a prize! Drive at the marker post, past it the fairway slopes downhill and to the left. Make sure the second shot misses the pond on the right. Very tricky elevated green. Very happy with my 6. Hole 17 is a Par 3 and 149 metres (White Tees) and is SI 14 Uphill par 3, watch the bunker in front of the green. Straight forward par 3 Hole 18 is a Par 4 and 308 metres (White Tees) and is SI 18 Dieppe Golf Clubs final hole is fairly easy, long hitters could reach the green depending on the wind direction. % for me, three putts!! Out in 49, In 45, Gross 94, Net 79 not bad considering the windy conditions Click here to see more photographs of Dieppe Golf Course
