Golf des Ormes, Domain des Ormes, Epiniac, Brittany, France

Golf des Ormes lies in the middle of the Brittany countryside, and is part of the 300 acre Domaine des Ormes ‘Euro village’.

Other facilities onsite include four swimming pools, an Equestrian centre, Paint-balling and cricket team, one of only a handful in France.

Accommodation includes the 3Star Hotel des Ormes, Self catering cottages, Chalets and a huge camping site. There are four restaurants in Domaine des Ormes as well as a supermarket. Golf des Ormes floats nicely around the whole resort, and although it is obviously a very busy resort, the golf course is extremely tranquil and peaceful.

Course Review

Par 72 5801 metres form the White Tees

Hole 1 is a Par 5 at 471 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.5
L’envolee.
Golf des Ormes starts with a Par 5 that is not too tricky. Drive over a small lake towards the small bushes. Left half of the fairway is best. Hidden bunkers protect the right half of a generous green.

Hole 2 is a Par 3 at 157 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.13
Le bord des bondes.
The first Par 3 at Les Ormes is a little tricky one. There are trees and a lateral water hazard on the left and a slightly raised green. A bunker on the right runs the whole length of the green.

Hole 3 is a Par 5 at 468 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.3
Le retour des évêques.
Another Par 4 and far more dangerous than the last one. Lateral water hazard on the left an trees on the right. You must be accurate with you tee shot as you will not be able to go over the water hazard on your second shot. The fairway rises to a three tiered green that has bunkers both side for protection.

Hole 4 is a Par 4 at 326 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.1
Le bocage.
This is Les Ormes hardest hole and the drive is a very tight one. Between the trees, and it’s a very small target, and you have to be right side of the fairway as this hole dog legs left. Fairly generous green that slopes viciously front to back. Not a long hole but one to be respected.

Hole 5 is a Par 4 at 269(Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.17
Le clos Louis.
A very short Par 4 that is probably not wise to try in one. Its OOB left and dog legs that way as well. First shot to the middle of the fairway, second to a two tiered elevated green that is marshalled at the rear by railway sleepers.

Hole 6 is a Par 4 at 385 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.11
Le Moulin á vent
Big generous fairway here that bends to the right. There is a big green to aim for but its surrounded by OOB posts if you are not accurate.

Hole 7 is a Par 5 at 467 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.9
La haute porte.
The third Par 5 already. Make sure your drive clears the bunker that is slightly right of the fairway. Left half of the fairway is always best here as the green is tucked away on the left. The green slopes away from you and is protected by three bunkers.

Hole 8 is a Par 3 at 159 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.15
Les défouéries
Bunkers right and left and behind. Stroke index 15 but plays like 5.

Hole 9 is a Par 4 at 325 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.7
La pommeraie.
A plantation on the left , and to the right, a brook runs the length of the fairway to a pond very close to the big green that is surrounded by bunkers. More water at the back of the green just to make this hole more dangerous.

Hole 10 is a Par 4 at 298 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.4
L’allée royale
The royal alley is probably Les Ormes best hole. A simple drive over water but be accurate and long as there is a huge pond to carry for your approach shot. Good views on the green back towards the clubhouse chateau. Golf in Brittany is far stronger with this hole.

Hole 11 is a Par 3 at 108 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.18
La garenne
This is Les Ormes weakest hole and if you don’t make par here you will kick yourself. Just avoid the bunkers!

Hole 12 is a Par 4 at 334 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.14
L’ étang de passé.
It’s a brave tear shot as you have to carry over the side of a large lake. If you are a coward and go to far right then the trees will block your second shot. There are three bunkers short of the green so make your approach a long one.

Hole 13 is a Par 4 at 405 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.2
La roche aux fees.
Another tee shot over the lake. Mind the bunker short right and the large trees that protrude onto the fairway just in front of it. It’s the longest Par 4 and there is a bunker 40 yards short of the green to trap the short hitters.

Hole 14 is a Par 5 at 435 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.10
La tour á feu.
This is a short par 5 that plays longer because it is up hill. It’s a tight approach to the green which is protected on the right by an old war bunker that is out of bounds for any nosey explorers. It’s a small green that is shrouded by trees.

Hole 15 is a Par 3 at 176 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.8
Le malheur de Sophie.
A lovely Par 3 that has a lake on the right side so don’t slice your tee shot. Two big bunkers just front of the green will punish those that don’t choose a 5 wood.

Hole 16 is a Par 5 at 509 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.12
Le Carrefour de l’étoile.
A long Par 5 and the last one at Les Ormes. There are no fairway bunkers but there are three hiding at the green side.

Hole 17 is a Par 3 at 171 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.16
Le coup du roy.
The last Par 3 at Les Ormes reminded me of the 17th At La Foret course in Le Touquet. There is a raised tee and you can see the trouble ahead in the three green side bunkers back, left and right.

Hole 18 is a Par 4 at 338 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.6
La vigne du seigneur.
The closing hole has a vicious dog leg right and if you can drive the bunker on the right then you will be perfect. If not, aim to be as close as possible to the starters hut. You should then left with a little ‘dink’ with an eight iron onto a devilish green that slopes from right to left.

I have played a lot of Golf in France and Les Ormes is definitely one of my favourites courses. Very relaxed and laid back, not too hilly or difficult on the body and you can make a good score.
