Founded in 1896, it is one of the few golf course in France built in the 19th century, and one of the two only golf clubs to have ever been the venue of the Olympic Games! When the games took place in Paris in 1900, Compiegne was the closest golf club from the capital, and the golf competition took place here. Nestled in a forest of incomparable beauty, Compiegne golf course was designed by M.W. Freemantle, and is laid out within the horse racing track of Compiegne. The layout is flat, the fairways lined with a dense rough, and the greens are of a postage stamp size, which used to be the rule before modern day course architecture.
